Lisa Putnam has been writing stories, songs, and poetry since she was very young. But it was the silly antics of one of her rescue dogs that inspired her to write a children's book and share her entertaining basenji story with the world. The author is the proud mother of two daughters who share her love of animals, music, writing, and exploring the great outdoors in sunny Colorado. She lives in Denver with her family and one "bad" basenji.

Bad Basenji! by Lisa Putnam is the adorable story of Bongo, a basenji, which is a breed of dog. Bongo is curious, stubborn, cute and also fast. Bongo is also very playful and restless all the time. The story shows the mischievous nature of this basenji and will keep young readers guessing as to what's going to happen next with Bongo's unpredictable behavior. The book captures the good and the bad side of Bongo, making the reader realize that everyone has a good and a bad side. Bongo's unique characteristics are also highlighted in the story. This story will delight and amuse readers with Bongo's liveliness. All basenji lovers will appreciate this story and it's also a book that all dog lovers will enjoy.
The illustrations are colorful and bright, and breathe life into the characters and scenes. It's a good story to be read aloud in classrooms and school libraries. Parents and grandparents can also read it out to their kids and grandkids during bedtime. The book has humor, mischief, warmth and love in it. The book also speaks about the unconditional love given to us by the pets in our lives and, no matter how mischievous they are, their owners always love them and share a unique bond with their pets.
The author manages to capture the essence of the basenjis beautifully and all basenji owners will see a little of their pets through Bongo in this story. I recommend this delightful book to all kids as it's a fun read and they will enjoy listening to it again and again.
