When Jamie Lord got the assignment to interview Terry Walker, a convicted serial killer, her initial impression was it would be a straightforward two-way chat yielding just enough material for the next edition of her Inside Crime series. Despite subtle warnings to the contrary, when she sat down with the man, she was not prepared for what he had to say. His disturbing confession spanned two days that she would never forget and triggered the beginning of a horrifying stroll through the depraved mind of an individual with no boundaries on the extent of pain and suffering he meted out to his victims. It did not end there. Anthology Of A Disturbed Mind by Skye Andrews encapsulates that story.
Evil comes out to play, and people must deal with the damage left in its wake. Skye Andrews tells the gruesome tale of the making of a serial killer and its consequences on those who witnessed it. Make no mistake, this story is dark, and Andrews does not hold back as her principal character devolves. The story's pace is as rapid as it is gripping, which sets up the stunning conclusion quite nicely. The extent of detailing that goes into Terry's sordid activities is so vivid it would turn your stomach just imagining it. What stands out for me about Anthology Of A Disturbed Mind is how Andrews uses her unique storytelling style to create deep but flawed characters whose motivations still evoke sympathy from the reader. This is an interesting novel with a thought-provoking theme.
