Anna and Her Grandma: Coping With a Loved One's Illness by Lisa Smalley is a beautiful picture book for young children. If your child is currently dealing with the confusing situation of having a loved one be ill, then this book will provide them with some clarity and peace of mind. Anna loves visiting her grandma every summer. They eat breakfast, harvest yummy vegetables from the garden, and enjoy days out together. Time flies and summer is over, meaning Anna has to go back home and wait for the next summer to come around. When it finally does, Anna once again visits her grandma but she notices something isn't quite right; her grandma is acting strange. A little while into her visit, Anna, along with her mom, finds out what is causing the strangeness. Do you know what it could be?
Anna and Her Grandma: Coping With a Loved One's Illness was a pleasure to read. As someone who has a grandparent with this horrible disease, I know first-hand how heartbreaking it can be, so to think of a child experiencing this is hard to digest. But with books like these, I'm reassured that children will develop an understanding that will ultimately help keep their family bond strong for longer. The writing is simple, allowing children to follow along more easily. The illustrations are adorable to show how close the characters are. Lisa Smalley has done an incredible job of creating a book that children will both love and learn from. Keep up the great work, Lisa. I look forward to reading more of your work soon.
