With so much fiction available on television and in print regarding angels and demons, it is wonderful to have an easy to read yet scholarly explanation for all of the various supernatural beings. Angels and Demons: A Biblical Introduction to the Supernatural by Lewis Stanek offers a close look at the three spheres of supernatural beings from the perspective of the Bible and other religious texts.
Throughout the book, biblical references are used to describe the presence and action, seen and unseen, of angels and other heavenly beings in the world over the past several thousand years. The three spheres, or choirs, of angels are identified and their attendant members carefully explained. Other entities – demons or Nephilim – are the children of fallen angels and human women and work on earth to distract people and turn them from God. It is these spirits, according to Stanek, that answer the call of people who try to delve into the supernatural with mediums, séances and Ouija boards so it is imperative to avoid these temptations. It is also emphatically stated that prayers to God are the way to ask for intervention for our problems and it is only through His will that an angel may be sent to intercede.
Stanek is uniquely qualified to discuss the realm of angels since he was surrounded by supernatural practices as a child, had a personal experience with an angel as an adult, and has studied the topic, earning a Master of Religious Studies degree. Angels and Demons: A Biblical Introduction to the Supernatural is clear and concise and provides you with a broad look at the phenomenon of angels in our world.
