Angel of Death by Sylan Young features a mercenary who breaks all of the rules of love. Serin Yim sought out the Angel of Death, hoping he could help her hide from her father. Lee turned her down. However, later that evening, Serin tried to run from one of her father’s men, but he managed to catch her. As he was choking her, Lee intervened. Serin gives Lee the nickname "Bin" and tells him her name is Yujin. When Lee attempts to get Serin to safety, he realizes he has to take her to his home. Serin falls in love with him and tries to break down the walls Lee has erected. Finally, Lee confronts Serin to obtain the information he needs to keep her safe. She reveals herself to be the illegitimate daughter of Senator Cho Kwan and Lee is now aware that he has taken on a more difficult task than he has ever faced.
Sylan Young's writing created suspense from beginning to end. I admired Serin's upbeat determination and Lee's unwavering dedication to everything he did. Even though Lee is a man of few words, what he does say has an impact. The setting was vividly described, and I started to feel as if I were hiking in the woods and fishing with the characters. The perspectives of both characters were seamlessly captured and transitioned. I could never have anticipated the ingenious ending of the book. There is never a dull moment, and the emotional turmoil makes Serin and Lee seem more relatable. Angel of Death is an absolute must-read for anyone who enjoys suspense, tension, and mercenaries with a soul.
