Lara Solovay, the author of And the Oscar Goes To....., shares her harrowing tale as she discovers the love and light of a higher power. The book begins simply enough with details about the day of her birth. But the story grows grim as our leading lady ages and experiences "dark forces" that begin to negatively affect her mind and body. It is only through turning to Christianity and baptism that Solovay begins to feel peace, comfort, and safety. This book is her memoir, her detailed memories of finding herself and finding religion.
This is a beautifully written memoir. Author Lara Solovay goes into such emotional depth that the reader can feel it too through the pages. As a Christian myself, I find life stories like this one to be uplifting and inspiring. The Lord really can do truly amazing things and the authenticity of the author emanates from every word. Gifting this book to a friend or family member is sure to give them hope that God can help them pull through whatever dark or desperate situation they are in right now. And the Oscar Goes To..... would be a perfect read for a book club or maybe as a book that gets passed through the neighborhood. Solovay writes with descriptive language that never rambles or gets superfluous. This is a clean, well-edited, well thought through work that makes me want to know more. I hope Solovay continues to write about her experiences because she truly has a gift.
