An Unexpected Evil by Pernell Rogers is an exciting novel of supernatural fiction about a man that messes with the wrong guys. Billy Capello is a down and out young man whose gambling and smoking habits bring trouble with the thug Charlie and his gang. Unable to pay his debt to Charlie, Billy fears for his life and he has a number of good reasons why. Eventually ending up badly beaten and waking up in a bed in a Brooklyn hospital, he finds out that he has undergone a bone graft in his legs and that the donor is a cadaver. His girlfriend Constance Belluci sticks with him and she's the reason why he slowly mends his ways, but as he is suffering from blackouts and nightmares, things turn out in a most unexpected way.

Pernell Rogers' An Unexpected Evil is truly and frightfully unexpected. The story unravels in a Brooklyn alley and there is a foreshadowing of the evil that is to come. And just when Billy Capello's life seems to go in the right direction, strange occurrences start happening around him. Pernell Rogers writes in such a way that the line between reality and dream will intrigue readers. The story is fast-paced with a series of twists and turns that are masterfully woven together to create a world that is both believable and fantastic. And this is perhaps the reason why An Unexpected Evil succeeds in engaging us in the unbelievable events happening in Billy Capello's life.
