An Open Letter to my Abuser by Lynny Prince is an honest book that shares letters from survivors of abuse with readers. Sexual trauma silences the voice of an individual and they are emotionally, psychologically, and physically changed for the rest of their lives. The book encourages all abuse victims to find their voice, reclaim their identity in becoming a survivor, and break the bonds of victimization. The letters shared in the book have given the survivors an opportunity to have their say; to express what they might not have been able to say and thereby providing healing and comfort to all survivors of incest and abuse. The collection of letters from survivors of various kinds of abuse is raw, honest, and gives them a voice to release trauma, helping them to be free from the past.
The emotions shared through the letters are heartfelt and will help readers better understand the feelings and emotions of a survivor. The letters and experiences are relatable and many readers will be able to identify with the thoughts and feelings shared. It’s a book for everyone as it exposes the hypocrisy that exists within society and it also shows the mental state of many people who have survived sexual abuse and incest. The author’s idea of coming up with a book like this is excellent. The concept is novel and it gives the survivors a platform to vent their feelings. Their pain and traumas are tangible and readers will want to reach out to them.
