In An Honourable Man by Diana Hockley, Genevieve Holloway is a primary school teacher who dreams of meeting her soul mate. She has noticed Christopher “Christy” Fallon around the school where she works. She finds him attractive and intriguing. She soon begins to fantasize about him and the potential whirlwind romance they could share. Unbeknownst to her, Christy has his own secret. When the unexpected encounter occurs between the two of them, no one could have predicted what would happen.
I was pleasantly surprised at this little short story. Diana Hockley is a very talented writer. In just a few pages, the characters of Genevieve and Christy really came to life. I became so wrapped up in their lives that I was dying to know how the story would end. And when it did, I just wanted more. I wanted to read more about the circumstances and about what happened later in these characters’ lives. In addition to the characters, I thoroughly enjoyed the plot. It’s not your typical romance; it keeps you on the edge of your seat and it has a unique twist at the end that I didn’t see coming. As you’re reading, you’ll wonder, “How is this going to end in 11 pages?” Surprisingly, it has a great ending, and even though it left me wanting more, it was so well-written that I almost had to put it down and clap to applaud Diana Hockley. If Hockley’s other stories are as entertaining as this one, I will definitely be reading more.
