An Evil Among Us by J.E. Holling is the sequel to The Falcon’s Revenge and is the stage for a succession of seemingly unconnected explosions. FBI consultant Eric Tyson is called upon to investigate the suspicious circumstances. He discovers that one name seems to be the common thread behind every incident; a North Korean nuclear physicist and now contract killer, Kahn. Tyson is faced with the possibility that Khan has connections to his greatest enemy, the notorious Warrior Brotherhood. Deadlier than both Al Qaeda and the Taliban, they prepare an onslaught to wreak anarchy across the US. They have the capabilities to destroy the electrical power systems and bring devastation to entire cities. The terrorist gang begins testing the weaponry in other continents, beginning in India. Tyson must draw on every bit of expertise and knowledge if he is to thwart the next attack. But the terrorists always seem to be one step ahead.
The author completely pulled me into this plot from the first page. The building of tension after each attack was like a pot on the stove waiting to bubble over. With the introduction of a chilling villain in Khan, the story line exploded into a plot that was both engaging and thrilling. Tyson was a cool and calculating character who was well matched to take on the cold-blooded terrorists. The inclusion of terrorist attacks in the story made it relevant and realistic. The whole concept of the plot has been thoroughly researched and this was evident not only in the dialogue but with each of the supporting characters. The subplot of Amira and George was beautifully woven into the story. The epic cliffhanger ending was superb. This story will lead you on a series of paths of intrigue and suspense. I am glad the author added the Epilogue which tied up the loose ends and hopefully the next story in this series will be as exciting.
