An Alien Took My Cheese is a children’s picture book written by Janice Hostetter, with illustrations by Mentari. The story follows Owen, a boy who loves apples, crackers, and cheese as his favorite snacks. Unfortunately, after waking up from his nap, he discovers that the cheese has disappeared from his plate. Determined to uncover the mystery behind the missing cheese, Owen starts his investigation with Clover, his family dog, who claims that a scary-looking alien has stolen it. Owen then makes his way through the house, visiting the bathroom, the playroom, and the garage, where he encounters his siblings and pets, each offering insights into the cheese-stealing alien. Will Owen be able to piece together the clues and discover who took his cheese?
An Alien Took My Cheese is a delightful story encouraging children to be brave and curious. Janice Hostetter skillfully uses humor and mystery to engage readers, building anticipation with intriguing clues. Throughout Owen's adventure, readers will notice sensory details, such as green footprints, various sounds, and foul odors that spark the imagination. Owen is a lovable character that children can easily relate to; his curiosity and love of snacks make him endearing. The colorful illustrations beautifully complement the story. I appreciated the simplicity of the artwork and the consistent layout, with the text presented on one side of the page and the illustrations on the other. This design makes it easy for children to learn to read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend adding it to your children's reading collection.
