Reading Almost Guilty is like being transported back in time to the early 1800’s. Jacie Fielding dreams of becoming a doctor. From the beginning, you know she not a typical female. She has taken refuge in London, fearing she will be accused of a murder she did not commit. Gabriel Rayne suspects she is the key to solving the murders of his friends. The two are drawn together, seeking answers. Jacie’s life is in danger. Will protecting her help Gabriel find the answers he seeks?
Using an understated style, Isabel Mere offers readers a story filled with romance and mystery. Jacie is a strong character, proving she can survive on her own. She and Gabriel play well together. I very much enjoyed the supporting character of Dr. Leggett. Mere has a talent for painting a word picture of the era. Fans of romance and suspense will enjoy Almost Guilty.
