All the Dark Souls is the first installment in the All The Dark Souls trilogy by A. M. Dunnewin. Jocelyn, aka Joss, Brevyn is a deathsman who comes from generations of executioners. There is no job that she and her assistant Henrik haven't completed to perfection. Even if being a deathsman is the last thing she wants to do, she has no other choice. They have seen it all, but nothing can prepare them for finding a battered and beaten man on the side of the road. The man is Aric, and he is too hurt to do much about his situation. As Joss nurses him back to health, there are sparks that they cannot deny. But there is a catch; neither of them is truthful with the other. Aric is harboring a secret that can put both Joss and Henrik in danger. What will Aric do? Will he fulfill his duty or put the woman he loves at risk?
Satisfying to read with plenty of drama and action to entertain all kinds of audiences, All the Dark Souls proved to be the perfect weekend novel to devour. I was hooked from the beginning, and there was hardly a moment when my attention was diverted. I loved Joss and Henrik’s relationship. They have each other’s back and rely on each other. I will be honest, Aric wasn’t my favorite in the beginning. He was unapproachable and a little too stiff. But Joss wore him down, and that was when we look into his mind and heart. I loved the dialogue and the detailed descriptions. The character development is on point and works well with the developmental arc of the story. A. M. Dunnewin has given the narrative an authentic feel and ensures we enjoy it until the end.
