Alex and Ozzy's School Adventure is a charming work of fiction in the form of a children’s picture book, penned by author Marina Donovan with illustrations from artist Alena Amanbaeva. Part of a continuing series about the adventures of two young mice siblings who are the best of friends, we find the duo headed off for their first day at school, and all the nerves and excitement which goes along with that. Intended for reading ages from accompanied reading at age 3, through to independent readers around 6-7 years old, this is a charming tale that will hopefully inspire good feelings about the big scary world of school.
Author Marina Donovan has crafted a lovely little story which captures much of the traditional feeling of children’s books, whilst also introducing a great moral message and modern, positive feeling. I really adored the green theme with plenty of plants and nature, as well as the pro-educational message of how much fun learning can be. There are also some suspenseful moments in the plot, but the friendship and family warmth of the story give it a great conclusion. In terms of illustrative quality, the work by artist Alena Amanbaeva is truly adorable but done in such a way that I feel children would also be inspired to try to draw or copy the characters, making them even more involved in the story. Overall, I would definitely recommend Alex and Ozzy's School Adventure for young readers nervous about school life, and older ones who are looking for a really fun adventure.
