After Darkness Falls: Volume 2 by Matt Drabble is more proof – as if proof is needed – that Matt is a master of the short horror story. The ten tales in this collection offer a glimpse at the broad scope of Drabble’s imagination, as he regales us with murderers, vampires, psychos, baby-nappers, vengeance gone wrong, zombies, more zombies, double-crossers, ghostly apparitions, and a grand finale which includes a lying, double-crossing, philandering bigamist, a couple of murderers, another double-cross, another zombie, and a final act of revenge from beyond the grave. Each story in this fine collection is unique. Drabble can craft a tale with the best of them. Although there are zombies and vampires in a few of these tales, they are nothing like any other vampire or zombie tale you've read. At the rate he’s been going, Matt Drabble is a name that will one day be as widely recognized as Stephen King, Dean Koontz, and others who have claimed their niche in horror history.
After Darkness Falls: Volume 2 is a collection of short stories, but you will read it in one sitting. There is no option to set down the book when you finish one of the stories. Each tale will end at its appointed time, but you will rush right into the next one, anxious to see what Matt does next. The tales are entirely independent of one another, but the quality of writing never diminishes. If you have read any of Matt’s other books, you already know what I’m talking about. If this is your first experience with Matt’s horror, welcome to the fan club. I strongly suspect you will soon be seeking out his previous books. If you enjoy truly original horror shorts, Matt Drabble will not disappoint.
