Across the Distance: Reflections on Loving and Where We Did & Did Not Find Each Other by Christina A Kemp is a heartfelt memoir. Christina opens her life for readers to witness and relate to it in this memoir. On the surface, the author talks about all the people she loved. She got to keep some of them in her life while some of them were temporary. Each chapter is a personal story about an important person in Christina’s life. She covers love for a parent, siblings, friends, mentors, and significant others. Within these narratives, readers experience her life while also reminiscing about all the grand loves of their lives.
The narrative almost feels like therapy at times. It is not all good times. It isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Christina A Kemp is very open with readers as she shares personal details about how she loved a particular person and how that love taught her a new lesson to keep for the rest of her life. Readers will experience the grief she felt when her father died, feel the pressure of the relationship she has with her mother, and how one of her mentors gave her the direction she needed to succeed in life. On the surface, all of these are just relationships she experienced in her life, but they shaped and changed her. You will get a feeling of nostalgia as you read on and feel Christina’s pain as she shares her grief with you. There is so much good in Across the Distance that it must be read at least once in your lifetime.
