Author Biography

Anthony Pond was blessed with an insatiable curiosity. About the world, about life, about meaning. He follows that curiosity with courage and the conviction that he will prevail over difficulties. Armed with degrees in English, journalism and law, he has roamed the world seeking answers. On the way, he has scuba-dived, mountain climbed and tromped through steamy jungles, enjoying the freedom that was instilled in him while growing up. And with that freedom came responsibility, caring for horses and goats and dogs and other animals as a youth. He brings this experience, his particular view on life, into a collection of short stories of literary realism, with its tragedies and triumphs.

Across The Border: Stories is a fascinating collection of short stories by Anthony Pond. This collection has fifteen stories with titles like Tragedy in The Corral, The Goat Pen Vegetable Garden, Sandals, Diamond Ring, Kilimanjaro, and The Call Home. The stories are interconnected and tell the tale of Ryan Jordan. It unravels on the family farm where Ryan and his sister Bekka help their parents tend to the animals. However, a death in the family soon changes their life, and Ryan struggles to find his place in the world. He attends college and helps in the family shop but feels lost and lacks direction. Exploring the beaches of Mexico, sailing on the river Nile, and climbing Kilimanjaro, Ryan searches for the meaning of life.

Anthony Pond’s Across The Border is a captivating collection of stories that takes us on a geographical and emotional journey. What makes it stand out is the seamless way Pond interconnects the stories so we can follow Ryan’s life story. It keeps our undivided attention as we read each story while trying to piece together the narrative. Set in different locations, Pond’s descriptive literary writing style transports us to other parts of the world. I find Ryan’s character relatable as we get to know his fears, doubts, dreams, and hopes. Ultimately, it is compelling and thought-provoking as it tells an all too familiar but unique story of the human experience navigating the road of self-discovery. Highly recommended!
