Acorn Party by Audrey Sauble introduces young readers to the wonders of nature while helping to strengthen their counting skills. The book takes a creative approach to learning. We meet adorable animal friends along the way. Instead of continuing directly from one to ten, the counting restarts when Squirrel forgets what number he is on and finds himself starting back at one. Later, Squirrel's friends join the scavenger hunt, pitching in to help and reminding him of what number comes next. As more and more animals join the search, readers see a fascinating assortment of North American wildlife unique to the Pacific Northwest region. The book includes helpful resource guides and activity ideas after the story. These bonus materials include some quick and easy ideas to help children create personalized and memorable outdoor experiences they can treasure together.
Acorn Party by Audrey Sauble is an endearing read enriched with charming and thoughtful illustrations, also by the author. The book incorporates valuable lessons into entertaining learning. In addition to counting, the story teaches simple concepts and life skill lessons on friendship, teamwork, problem-solving, and fire safety in an easily comprehensible format. The captivating illustrations further add to the appeal, and I enjoyed meeting these characters and seeing them work together to help their friend as they count their nature finds. Sauble's soothing art style gives the story a timeless feel. The book would make an entertaining and educational addition to any home, school, or library.
