Aaliyah P. Flies into Outer Space! (The Little Adventures of Aaliyah P.!) by Lucinda Weeks is the right book to get kids dreaming about space and the adventures that can be had beyond Earth. It is bedtime, and Aaliyah P.’s mother decides to read her another story about flying into outer space. Aaliyah P. loves it when her mom does this and immediately goes on an adventure when her mother starts the story. This highlights the importance of spending time with children, building their imaginations, and encouraging them to dream through bedtime stories. Aaliyah P.’s eager anticipation also shows that moments like these are treasured and can form pleasant childhood memories that reinforce feelings of love. The book blends elements of adventure and science fiction nicely and will teach children a few things about outer space.
Through the illustrations by Mia Stefano and Freepik, and the narration, children will learn that there are seven known planets, earth has its own moon, outer space is colorful and fascinating, there are many stars in the universe, Mars is also called the Red Planet, and one of its moons is called Phobos, etc. I recommend Aaliyah P. Flies into Outer Space! by Lucinda Weeks to parents, guardians, and teachers trying to spark that flame of curiosity in children. I like how infectiously heartwarming Aaliyah P.’s enthusiasm is. Also, at the end of the book, there are seven fun activities to keep children engaged. This is a good read, especially for children aged seven and below.
