A Weekend in the Country with Meemaw by Kyra Wills Luckett and Shala Alexander is a fun picture book for children. It's the last day of school for Kami, which means one thing - it’s time to visit Meemaw in the countryside for the summer! Kami is excited as always and rushes out of school before the principal gets the chance to finish his "see you next school year" speech. Kami hops onto the school bus and meets her mother back home. She immediately calls her Meemaw and asks how soon she can come over. The following day, Kami and her brother are all packed and ready to go. They arrive at Meemaw and Peepaw's house and the fun begins. Pick up a copy of this book to see what adventures Kami and her family get up to.
A Weekend in the Country with Meemaw is an amusing and adventurous book that children are going to love reading. I was pulled into the story from the very first page and didn't want to put it down. It has a heart-warming tale about how amazing grandparents are, and how much they mean to us. Spending quality time with family, especially grandparents, is vital because you never know how long you have left with them. You will miss them tremendously when they're gone. This book shows exactly that and will allow children to realize the importance of family, whilst also being entertained. The illustrations by Trevor Lucas have been beautifully created and fit perfectly with the story. I hope to read more of Kyra Wills Luckett and Shala Alexander's work soon.
