D. L. Finn did a terrific job of portraying the thrilling aspects of the story. I kept reading obsessively, eager to know what happened next yet dreading the future. She also excelled at bringing each character to life. Within the first couple of pages, I could empathize with Drea’s grief and longing for some reassuring company. Trying to fulfill her longstanding desire to write animal characters, Finn created a set of adorable furry friends. The mutual love and companionship between the animals and Drea helped them grow into a tight-knit family, making the read wholesome. Ultimately, it was a story of starting over, accepting newfound love, and giving life a second chance. A Voice in the Silence is a feel-good and engaging read with talking animals, a ghost communicating in riddles, a little sleuthing, and a blossoming romance.

Drea struggles after her husband's death and drives around with a firearm on her lap. Back home, she sees a large yellow dog at the edge of the forest and tries to lure him home. She ends up with a dog, cat, and a rat in her home. She realizes that the three are friends and notice there is something strange about them. The following day she saw large footprints in her yard that did not belong there and called it in. Officers came to her house and she was told a woman’s body had been found and the killer was targeting widows. Her husband’s friend is one of the officers and offers to sleep at her house to keep her safe. In A Voice in the Silence by D.L. Finn, Drea and Adam’s relationship turns into more than friendship while they try to find the killer together.

Finding a serial killer and keeping the owner of a Lab from taking the animals come together in A Voice in the Silence by D.L. Finn. It was wonderfully written and kept me intrigued until the end. The story was fast-paced and full of suspense and I kept on reading; I did not want to stop. There was so much action that it kept me on the edge of my seat. The descriptions of the characters were so realistic that even the animals were like humans. Some of the characters were so evil I did not like them. Finn created a world where humans and animals became family and loved each other. While reading the story, I lived with Drea and her friends in this unique world. Throughout the story, I could feel the love between humans and the special love between humans and animals.
