Matthew Cox’s Vampire Innocent Book Series presents its latest story, A Vampire’s Guide to Work-Unlife Balance. Sarah Wright has come a long way and readers have witnessed how she has developed as a character since her beginnings in A Nighttime of Forever. This time, as Sarah continues to navigate the rhythms of her student life while staying under the radar to keep her vampire persona a secret, she continues to deal with a series of entities trying to kill her. As she waits for the next supernatural entity to sow chaos and mayhem in the mortal world, she wonders how seriously a death threat from a barbecue grill can be taken. She is about to find out.
As for the Vampire Innocent Books, something about this particular series is captivating to its target market with its unusual combination of the supernatural and humor while dealing with bloodsuckers and demonic forces. Matthew Cox knows how to write for teens as his narrative oozes wit and chutzpah. Mixing genres can be tricky, but Cox pulls it off with panache as this mixed action comedy and vampire lore stands out for its quirkiness, featuring a girl finding out whether her condition is a gift or a curse. Either way, she knows that she is powerful. If Cox sustains the intensity of this series, it may well become a cult phenomenon. For all its irony, realistic dialogue, and girl power undertones, A Vampire’s Guide to Work-Unlife Balance lives up to its storyline and is worthy to be part of the series. It’s a must-read.
