Nancy Baren Miller has had a successful career as an outdoor and travel writer. The novel fictionalizes many of her experiences as a camper for five years and counselor for one. Before her writing career, Nancy dreamed of having her own camp. This vision was realized in fiction form when at age 17, she wrote A Summer at Camp Floridian. It was seriously considered by a major publisher at that time.
Having majored in psychology at the University of South Florida, she turned to people-oriented activities before starting her writing career in 1989 as a columnist on RVs and camping for an Ohio weekly newspaper. Her career grew as she turned to travel and RV writing for many newspapers and magazines. By the time she retired as a free lancer in 2007, she had published more than 500 articles in over 30 sources, many of them national.
She won writing awards while a member of Midwest Travel Writers Association and Outdoor Writers of America. She also received recognition for her writing from the Ohio House of Representatives.
In 2012, 32 friends encouraged Nancy and her husband, Earl, to send them travel articles and photos during their RV trips. This turned into starting NanMillerTimes.com in 2014. It has more than 160 articles and 3,500 photographs on siites found in small and midsized towns. Because of requests from her readers for her to write a book, she has revised and reedited A Summer at Camp Floridian and has published it.

A Summer at Camp Floridian by Nancy B. Miller is the story of a first-year camp counselor who is having a hard time deciding what she should do. The moment the camp begins, she realizes that her work is cut for her by five feisty and strong-headed 10-year-olds. They each have their own needs and their personalities are clashing badly with each other. She has to do something to make sure that Janie, Donna, Lynn, Ann, and Micky have a camping experience that they will enjoy. Their summer is on the line and the pressure is on Susan now. While she is devoting time to these children, her own life is demanding her attention. What can she do to find that perfect work/life balance? Can she help these girls have a great summer together?
A Summer at Camp Floridian by Nancy B. Miller is a very refreshing novel that is perfect for tweens and teenagers. The story is clean with no profanities, no explicit situations and or anything that can make someone uncomfortable. The story revolves around five children and their counselor, their hurdles and what they have to do to overcome those hurdles. This was a fun read, something that I would recommend for a lazy day. From the perspective of a tween or teenager, this is a wonderful story with plenty of action and adventure to keep them busy and interested. The emphasis on teamwork, patience, companionship, and friendship is great for children as well. No character is one-dimensional, every child has depth and potential for growth, which would be a great lesson for young readers.
