A Shift In Perception by David Marrocco is a true science fiction read where you are left biting your nails and sitting on the edge of your seat, wondering what will happen next. Cru Ketis is not a good man, but he is not that deranged as well. He is a selfish man living in a world that is not what it seems. His little mind games make him special enough perhaps to become the one that can save everyone. His perception of the world might be the only key in finding out the truth that has been hidden from millions of people who are living on borrowed time and are nothing but puppets for a force that is far more powerful than they are. With a dark force ready to destroy the world, can one man’s change in perception help humanity at large? Or will Cru remain selfish and let the world suffer?
A Shift in Perception is as much a science fiction read as a psychological thriller. I got Supernatural (TV series) vibes from this novel. The story was written perfectly; it gave you chills where it should and gave you an adrenaline rush to make your heart pound along with Cru’s. I think this novel is more about hope for something better above anything else. The lead character of the novel is a human being in every sense. He has made mistakes in the past and he has his moments too. Yet at the same time, he has a strong character development that makes him one of my favorite characters of all time. And 98% of the credit goes to the writer for writing Cru in such a manner. I really enjoyed this novel and I can’t wait to start the second novel in the series.
