Roger Riccard’s family history has Scottish roots, which trace his lineage back to the Roses of Kilravock Castle near the village of Croy in Highland, Scotland. This British Isles ancestry encouraged his interest in the writings of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle at an early age. After successfully authoring the novels, Sherlock Holmes & The Case of the Poisoned Lilly, and Sherlock Holmes & The Case of the Twain Papers, he then went on to create a dozen short stories of the famous sleuth and his faithful companion, Dr. Watson in a two-volume set: Sherlock Holmes Adventures for the Twelve Days of Christmas and Further Adventures for the Twelve Days of Christmas.
He has also had his work featured at the London Museum Sherlock Holmes Exhibit and been included among the best Sherlock Holmes authors world-wide, contributing to The New Stories of Sherlock Holmes anthologies by David Marcum
Having earned Bachelor of Arts Degrees in both Journalism and History from California State University, Northridge, his career has progressed from teaching into business, where he has used his writing skills in various aspects of employee communications. He has also contributed to newspapers and magazines and has earned some awards for his efforts.
He currently lives in a suburb of Los Angeles, California with his wife, Rosilyn, and their “kids”; Chocolate Labrador Retriever Tootsie Roll, and cats, Bela and Amanda.

A Sherlock Holmes Alphabet of Cases: Volume 1 (A to E): Five New Stories from the Notes of John H. Watson, M.D. is a collection of short detective stories written by Roger Riccard. The author’s interest in Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous detective was in no small part fostered by his own British Isles ancestry, and he has written both novels and short stories featuring Sherlock Holmes. In The Adventure of the Apothecary’s Prescription, Watson is sent a delivery for an emergency patient that doesn’t exist. Watson soon realizes that Sherlock Holmes’ assistance is being sought by yet another person in need. This time, it’s a pharmacist whose family is being held hostage to ensure his compliance with their captors’ demands for drugs. Watson and his wife, Mary, work with Sherlock to solve the case and help Hector Burbage’s family escape the clutches of a deadly and determined foe.
Roger Riccard’s collection of short detective stories, A Sherlock Holmes Alphabet of Cases: Volume 1 (A to E) will thrill any fan of Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic detective fiction. The author gets the relationship between Holmes and Watson, and his recreation of London in their time frame works quite well. I enjoyed both the stories in which Watson was married and living away from 221B Baker Street and those in which the two sleuths are sharing living quarters. Riccard’s inclusion of archival photographs works quite well in giving these stories an authentic and historical feel. A Sherlock Holmes Alphabet of Cases: Volume 1 (A to E): Five New Stories from the Notes of John H. Watson, M.D. is highly recommended.
