A Romance to Remember is the fourth book in the Sapphire Bay Romance series written by Sandra Edwards. Marla Taylor prides herself on her matchmaking skills. When visitors to her son’s Hawaiian resort at Sapphire Bay look lonely, she takes it upon herself to introduce them to somebody who could be their forever love. Marla’s determination to see love conquer all is put to the test when her heart goes out to elderly widow, RosaLee Fairbanks, who is vacationing with her granddaughter, Rose. When Marla meets Nick Finley, a recent widower who is spending his vacation with his grandson, Nicholas, Marla decides to seize the opportunity to remedy their single status. As RosaLee’s fond memories of a handsome young Air Force cadet, fifty years earlier, warm her heart, Nick replays his own memories of the most beautiful woman he had ever met – his one and only true love – whom he had foolishly let slip through his fingers so many years ago. Marla is determined to fan the flames of romance, but her matchmaking plans lead to an encounter which Marla could never have possibly foreseen.
I found myself smiling from ear to ear throughout most of this extraordinary tale. Sandra Edwards has masterfully brought to life the magic of everlasting love, romance and cherished memories of two elderly people who’d each had secret romances many years ago, prior to being wed to somebody else. RosaLee’s and Nick’s recollections of the one that got away are extremely expressive and very well written. Both give their own portrayals of their fondly remembered lost loves to their grandchildren, leaving the grandchildren hopeful that they, too, would someday have a love even half as strong as that which their grandparents had once felt, even though it was for an elusive stranger. I very much enjoyed A Romance to Remember from first to last page and recommend it to readers who enjoy a nostalgic happily-ever-after with a twist.
