A Police Action by A.A. Freda is a romance novel that will get your heart racing and make you wish for a happily ever after for the two protagonists. Set in the time of the Vietnam War, the novel follows nineteen-year-old Samantha “Sam” Powers and soldier James Coppi; both of them fall in love at a time when their lives are at a standstill. When Sam meets the charismatic and charming James, she knows that she has found her forever kind of love. She instantly falls in love with him, thanks to his smile and gentle nature. The two find the perfect chemistry, but much like everything in life, nothing is easy for them.
James is all set to be deployed to Vietnam to serve his country in the war and Sam is pregnant with someone else’s baby. The two young lovers have no idea what the future has in store for them, yet they cannot seem to stay away from each other. They want the life they have dreamt about, but it appears that it is not in store for them. Can they form a relationship when the two of them are at such odd times in their lives? What can they do when they will be at opposite ends of the earth? Will James ever return to Sam? Or is this the only taste of true love Sam will ever get?
This is a gritty romance, just the way I like it. The story flows naturally in a very non-hurried way. Both of the main characters are given enough page space to develop and grow. Even though it is sort of insta-love for Sam, she is not rushing anything and that makes the story and her character relatable. James, on the other hand, is one of the most cool and calm characters, which is the perfect characteristic because he has to be in a war in the midst of chaos. Together, James and Sam complement each other and make a powerful story! I loved the novel and I truly enjoyed it.
