A Movable Marriage: A Memoir is a non-fiction travel memoir written by Tricia Pimental. The author was a Brooklyn born and bred native who made her first definitive move when she purchased an airline ticket for the West Coast. She settled in Los Angeles where she worked in the legal field as a secretary. While she was married to her first husband, Harry, they were living in a large house in a nice part of town, but that house became increasingly harder for her to maintain after their divorce seven years later. Some acting jobs helped a bit, but more significantly it was at a rehearsal that she met her second husband, Keith. After the Northridge earthquake, the extensive resulting damage done to their home and the ever increasing difficulties with maintaining their lifestyle, the couple began to consider other places to live. Pimental had always had a fondness for Park City, Utah, so they decided to give it a try...but that was only the beginning of their odyssey.
Tricia Pimental's Christian-based travel memoir, A Movable Marriage: A Memoir, is a well-written and entertaining account of her and her husband's efforts to find the home and locale that they'd want to stay in for the rest of their lives. I enjoyed learning about the various places they explored as they adventured across the country and then across Europe. I found myself doing Google searches to see where some of the more interesting places they visited were located, and I appreciated the curiosity and resilience both of them exhibited in their quest for the unknown and the ideal. Pimental's writing style is conversational and breezy, and she is quite generous in sharing her occasional doubts and trepidations. She recounted some of the less savory opportunities they encountered, for example, the story of the bat-infested log cabin near the Canadian border, which is a truly hilarious episode. A Movable Marriage: A Memoir is highly recommended for fans of travel memoirs.
