Losing a loved one is never easy; loss-induced grief is inevitable no matter how old you are. But children have an even harder time dealing with grief as they are new to the concept. A Million Little Stars by Amanda Loraine Lynch, Candice Davis, and Bonnie Lemaire is a children's picture book that touches on loss, love, grief, and healing. With engaging rhymes and lively artwork, the book tells the story of a young girl who has just lost her father and feels his presence in one of the million stars roaming the night sky. Stars are the window to heaven, and we will all be stardust at some future time.
Aside from a moving rhyming story, A Million Little Stars also contains activities to deal with loss, directions on mending broken pots, writing down your feelings, breathing exercises, ways to navigate grief bursts, preparing a grief first aid kit, and much more. Authors Amanda Loraine Lynch and Candice Davis offer readers 50 activities to help families manage grief. A few examples are a trip to the amusement park, volunteering at a local animal shelter, spending time with friends, etc. Bonnie Lemaire's beautifully drawn illustrations make the story more immersive and impactful for the reader. A Million Little Stars is a book that gently teaches children to handle issues everyone eventually faces—highly recommended.
