In these highly charged days of political division, A Lib I Am! by Bill Hunt pokes fun at liberals with no apology. Decidedly not pro-Trump in concept, this humorous analysis of the stereotypical liberal demonstrates the “I want what I want” attitude associated with the left side of the political spectrum. The clever use of the Dr. Seuss format allows for the character to build up to an unreasonable stance and adds to the implication that liberal tantrums are childish.
As a rather one-sided dialogue with “Uncle Sam”, this text points out that the 2016 presidential election was fair and that as Americans, we need to support the majority decision. Rather than trying to support Trump, the exchange with a democratic American icon highlights the liberal’s inability to accept an outcome with which he does not agree. The more reasonable Uncle Sam tries to be, the more incensed the liberal becomes to the point of being totally irrational.
Clever, pointed and pulling no punches, Bill Hunt takes a social issue that is front and center and displays it in all of its ideations. Undoubtedly not a book to be appreciated by liberals, A Lib I Am! provides a mirror for those who would be brave enough to look. For others, it offers the chance to laugh at a phenomenon that is being played out time after time in politics, entertainment and society. They say that truth hurts, and A Lib I Am! takes an extreme position and skewers those who can relate to such behavior.
