A Hypnotic Suggestion by Allison Jones is a gripping suspense right from the beginning. When John Harkins had a 7:00 a.m. meeting with Michael Freidan, his father-in-law, little did he know that morning that his life was about to take a complete turn! Walking into the home, he found Mr. Freidan on the floor, severely wounded from a gunshot. Because he moved the gun, John becomes the lead suspect when Michael dies, and when the police finds he is cheating on his wife, Michael's daughter, that gives them more incriminating evidence against him. John staunchly denies that he murdered his father-in-law and says he never cheated on his wife, that someone has set him up to take the fall.
This soon turns out to be more than just a simple open-and-shut case. With Tom Danford, criminal attorney and Dr. Susan Kemper, a psychologist and forensic hypnotherapist, the case gets even more complicated. From a string of thefts, to Susan’s domineering husband, to complications from a bank robbery three years earlier, the reader is left trying to figure out just who the killer is. With scattered clues through Susan’s ability with her hypnotic gift, the reader is in for a suspenseful ride. With things heating up between Tom and Susan and her marriage getting a little rocky, can Susan maintain her distance and help get this crime solved? Will Tom finally reach closure on the bank robbery?
This is one of those books that keeps the reader involved right down to the exciting conclusion. It is easy to connect to the characters, and it feels as if you are right there watching the scene play out. It’s a fast read with an exciting plot. Great book for all mystery lovers!
