A Friend for Freckles by Erin Beth Liles is the cute little story of Freckles who is a good friend to the dogs in the city animal shelter. He makes everyone happy there. Though Freckles has been in the shelter for a long while, no one wants him because he has only three legs. Everyone who comes to see him does not want to give him a home. All his other friends are taken. Freckles feels really sad and he is tired from all his tricks and crazy antics. Finally, when the shelter is about to close, a small boy walks in with his father. They look at every dog and they look at Freckles too. Will Freckles finally find a home of his own?

It's a touching story of a dog with a disability and a difference. The book tells young readers that we should look beyond one's disabilities and admire their character, values and how they treat others around them. Freckles' good nature is the highlight of the story. The illustrations capture the theme and essence of the plot beautifully. They are bright and colorful and give pace and movement to the scenes and characters. The book has a good message and concept and it is perfect to use for read aloud sessions in classrooms and school libraries. Parents and grandparents can use it as a bedtime storybook for kids and grandkids. The book also teaches kids to observe how friends help each other and make each other happy. An adorable story book for kids with a good message.
