A Few of My Favourite Things shows the positive side of life without forgetting that difficulties are also part of our experience. The book begins in a heartwarming manner, as A J Ross-Etheridge gives thanks for the love and attention she received from her mother. She laments not having had more opportunities to live with her mother while inviting the reader to forget their problems and to enjoy life as if they were children again. She shares her anecdotes, advice, and thoughts through the medium of poetry. She describes how to be positive and enjoy the simple things that life provides, like taste, color, or a song. We can share all this with our own loved ones through this beautiful poetry.
I enjoyed the way A J Ross-Etheridge expresses herself. She speaks clearly because the experiences come from her heart. She writes about life, love, peace, and hope. Through her words she evokes nostalgia. It is easy to empathize because we can feel the affection that was present in those experiences. One of my favorite poems is Voice of an Angel because it describes the love of a mother for her loved ones. Everyone who cares about you wants to help you, but they sometimes express it in ways that might seem contradictory, yet the loving intention remains. That kind of interaction is what makes A Few of My Favourite Things such a distinctive book.
