Thank you for your review of , "A Daughter's Secret." Attached is a short video trailer you may enjoy watching. I'd like to start out with saying I do not consider myself an Author. A couple of years ago I took a DNA test out of curiosity to see how much percentage of Irish was in my ethnicity. Doing this resulted in sharing and writing about my experience. I self published my story through Page Publishing who said that they would do a Chicago edit on my book. My educational back round merely consists of receiving a high school diploma. As complex as my story seems it is written just putting my emotions to paper. Some parts may feel confusing because that is exactly what I was, in a state of confusion. Taking this DNA test has changed my life forever. My identity has been completely shattered. Please understand that I wrote my story as it unfolded. My hopes are to help at least one person that may be going through a similar situation deal with their experience. Writing was very therapeutic for me. Some people will like my story and other's will not. It is my opinion that at some point in my life my mother should have sat me down and told me the truth. I was side swiped! I'm just a girl with a story.

A Daughter’s Secret by Jacqueline McDonald is a personal account of what a simple DNA test can uncover. Jackie’s biological mother and father have not been together since she was a child, having broken up and gotten back together so many times, no one ever thought to question her or her siblings' genetics. She was raised by another man, who raised her better than the man she thought was her biological father could have done. Over the years, Jackie and her siblings had been told they are German, Irish and Dutch but the DNA test revealed something different. Jackie searches for family members via DNA through the genealogy website and discovers some other very interesting facts that lead her to confront her mother with what she has learned. Jackie’s mother responds in a very odd manner which leaves the daughter with even more questions than answers. Overwhelmed with all of the information, Jackie thinks that her siblings should also take a DNA test to see if they all match or if more family secrets can be unlocked.
A Daughter’s Secret by Jacqueline McDonald is a very interesting take on the importance of understanding where we come from. McDonald skillfully shares her personal experiences with discovering her own roots and the effects the truth can have on a family. I love how Jackie discovers family members that are supportive and helpful, like her cousin Helen, as they email and correspond with information and discover how similar they really are. I recommend A Daughter’s Secret by Jacqueline McDonald to anyone who is thinking about looking into their own family tree.
