Literary Lady, Dr. Patricia Daly-Lipe, is an Author, Artist and Speaker. Patricia has written six books: Messages from Nature, (a collection of short stories about animals, the high seas, and nature); A CRUEL CALM, Paris Between the Wars (a historical fiction); Myth, Magic and Metaphor, A Journey into the Heart of Creativity; ALL ALONE, Washington to Rome, A '60s Memoir; Patriot Priest, The Story of Monsignor William A. Hemmick, The Vatican's First American Canon; and La Jolla, A Celebration of Its Past. The La Jolla book published by SunBelt Publications, was the Winner of the San Diego Books Awards in 2002. A Cruel Calm (1st edition: Forbidden Loves) won the 1st Runner-Up for Fiction JADA Trophy and the USABookNews.com Finalist Award and 1st Prize, Royal Dragonfly Book Awards 2013 .
Patricia is the past President of the National League of American Pen Women-La Jolla Branch, and the recipient of the 2004 Woman of Achievement Award. She was also President of the Washington, DC Branch NLAPW. In 2007, Patricia was speaker for the National Capital District 36 Toastmasters 2007 Spring Conference. In her "spare" time, Patricia has been rescuing thoroughbred horses. In the late '70s and '80s, she raised and raced them.

“A Cruel Calm: Paris Between the Wars” takes readers back on a visit to an era when Paris was the cultural capital of the world, a time when Paris was recovering from the First World War and awaiting the next great war. Libby Whitaker and her new husband Michael move to Paris during this time, and Libby flaunts her ability to move among the circles of the high and mighty there. She takes in Charles Lindbergh and his first flight in 1927, along with meeting Ernest Hemingway and many others along the way. The sad and unfortunate thing for Libby is that she didn’t really know her husband well before she married him. Therefore it wasn’t until after the marriage that she found out he liked men much more than women. And being Catholic, she couldn’t divorce him, but at the same time she couldn’t stand to be around him, and how can we blame her? Libby make a lot of choices, good and bad, and endures a lot of pain along the way.
Patricia Daly-Lipe indeed did her homework in researching for this book, bringing vivid details of the area, the artist, and the life in Paris that readers are sure to enjoy. Her characters are realistic and make the story interesting and enjoyable. Libby’s story is not always easy to read and follow, but I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her, and meet all of the interesting people she met along the way. "A Cruel Calm" is a nice story to read and enjoy, so why not grab a copy to read and enjoy for yourself?
