A Brother's Truth by Jenna Morrison is a young adult thriller set in the “wild west.” Taking place in the late 1890s, the story follows the fate of two brothers and their cousin as they fight the worst fate has to offer. Brothers Matt and Will are as different as they could be. One of them was the perfect child while the other was always on the bad side of everything for some reason. However, things got worse when Will was arrested, revealed some secrets that were best left buried, and now the brothers were in serious trouble. They were not the only ones in danger. Their cousin Lilianna found out some disturbing secrets about her own family. Her already shaken world was shattered when her parents were murdered by a blood-thirsty gang. Seeking revenge, Lilianna was ready to do whatever it took to avenge her parents. Somehow, Matt and Will were roped in as well, and now all three were struggling to survive. What would happen next?

The story was darker than I expected, and I loved it. From the very beginning, I was sucked in and enjoyed the descriptions the most. The descriptions were, in fact, vital in understanding the characters and the plot. While there were morally ambiguous characters in the story, I found Matt to be very simple. He was confused and unable to find his footing, especially when it came to his brother Will. Jessa’s character was fun, and she was perhaps the only person who could slap Matt and get away with it. The pace was fast, the action was intense, and something was happening at any given moment. A perfect story for someone who enjoys young adult fiction with plenty of realistic imagery and believable characters. Intricate, dark, and very entertaining!

I just read this story. It's very, very good! Funny, heartbreaking, dark, and so emotional. I need more stories from this author.

A Brother’s Truth by Jenna Morrison is probably one of the best, well thought-out books I have ever read. And to think that this is the author’s first novel, it is amazing.

A Brother’s Truth follows 17 year old Will and 19 year old Matt. Matt is the rebellious brother who believes that everyone is “a slave to society”. Will, on the other hand, believes if you work hard- you will be rewarded. They are both peasant young men who are confused in life, they have no parental figures in life, and they have to raise their younger siblings/run the farm. Throughout the story, the two brothers clash in personality. Both characters are polar opposites, yet identical at the same time. When Matt brings trouble into the home and is arrested, all hell breaks loose between the brothers. They become wanted men (Matt and Will).

Lilianna (age 17) on the other hand was raised in a wealthy family, and she lives like a princess everyday. She yearns to have a life of action and adventure, but her parents push her to live life as a prim and proper lady. She also wants to reunite with her childhood best friends/ cousins: Matt and Will. However, her father refuses, telling her he will not allow her to be around “scum from the slums”. When her parents are murdered, she is on a mission to find Matt and Will, as well as avenge her parents.

As Matt and Will run from the law, Lilianna becomes a bounty hunter and is unknowingly tasked to hunt the brothers down.

I couldn’t put the book down. It was so dark, intense, SAD, and at times- hysterical. I cannot tell you how much I loved this book. Will was my favorite character just because he was the underdog who tried so hard in everything he did. Matt followed close behind when he started to mature a bit. I also really loved Melissa Jameson and the messy love triangle that happened. This is an awesome story to pick up if you want a lot of action, adventure, thrills, laughs, and a good cry at the end.

I look forward to more from this author. I am rooting for a sequel.
