A Better World by Belangela G. Tarazona is a story that chronicles the lives and hardships of three different women from different countries, who learn to leave the troubles of the past behind them and open their hearts to the Danish men in their lives. Saja is a refugee from Sri Lanka who barely escapes with her life after her husband is killed. Detained by immigration, she slowly begins her new life as she rekindles her passion for cooking. Yonna is a young Venezuelan girl who becomes something of a recluse after she discovers that her family was slaughtered while she was away. Taken in by a kindly German woman, Yonna earns money weaving and soon catches the attention of a handsome young man. Can she let go of her past enough to let him in? Taraji is a young South African girl adopted by Danish parents. Now a teen, she wants to find her birth parents. Each story is connected to the other and each is a unique tale of love and perseverance.
A Better World by Belangela G. Tarazona was an enjoyable read, despite the struggles all three main characters go through. I enjoyed Saja's story the most and I found the descriptions of the Danish immigration process very interesting. I was kind of sad when her story was quickly wrapped up. Yonna's story was very intriguing and, despite the heart-breaking stuff she goes through in the beginning, it's great to see her come out of her shell. Taraji's story wasn't really my favorite, and seems the most different of the three. Her family was very sweet, though. All in all, A Better World is a great read for anyone looking a story featuring women beating the odds.
