In the same way that our true friends counsel us in times of need to remember useful truths we already knew but may have forgotten, C.J. Maritz’s 50 Every Day Ways to Cheer You Up is a warm and familiar dose of encouragement and connectivity for those who need to remember that life is supposed to be fun. We all have stresses and concerns that take us away from the joy of living and each of us needs, at times, to feel that we are not alone in the world. C.J. Maritz’s 50 Every Day Ways to Cheer You Up is a perfect companion for a “down” day. His insights are simple, truthful, easy to manifest with only the merest changes in behavior or outlook, and perfectly tuned to our fast-paced modern world where the smallest change of pace or fresh perspective can be just what is needed to turn things around.

One of the nicest aspects of this charming little volume is that Maritz’s approach is not “in your face,” but is instead gently encouraging and so quietly giving that one cannot help but be positively influenced by his “real but rosy” world view. 50 Every Day Ways to Cheer You Up suggests that the same energy we spend on going through the routines which make our bodies, minds, and spirits sluggish can be shifted ever-so-slightly to accomplish small miracles in our own life and in the lives of others. It is a winning approach, and a timely message. 50 Every Day Ways to Cheer You Up by C.J. Maritz is an affable offering of goodwill and wisdom, with timeless truths to impart to readers of all ages.

50 Every Day Ways To Cheer You Up by C.J. Maritz is a collection of ‘quick fixes’ to make us see life from a different and fun perspective. The author begins with the advice to ‘Smile uncontrollably (who’s stopping you?!) until you feel warm and fuzzy inside’ and ends with another easy one, ‘you should remember that your life is meant to be cheerful.’ All the remaining ‘affirmations’ that follow are crisp, logical, and easily adaptable. The author seems to have made it a point to convey very significant matters through easy and memorable phrases, such as, for the importance of exercise, he says: ‘Get physical. Without a little bit of sweat and exercise, your body will lose itself.’

50 Every Day Ways To Cheer You Up by C.J. Maritz contains many suggestions that are simple but thought provoking. For example: ‘Wear the most comfortable and most expensive socks that you can afford’ reminded me of my earlier days, especially as young men, the trouble we used to take just to avoid a situation involving the removal of socks. Many of the suggestions are witty, such as: ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away, but a piece of chocolate a day makes your heart go hooray.’ As the author mentions at the beginning of the book ‘May this book be read for fun,’ this book hides many of the most important and oft repeated adages in simple, fun expressions. This is a good addition to one's daily read or reference.
