What a terrific go-to guide for recent and past movies! Byron Brubaker’s 100+ Years of Movies is packed with summaries of movies you have seen and some you may want to see. Included in the book is an introduction which explains author Byron Brubaker’s background as a movie reviewer, analysis of past and present movies, movie ratings, the date of movie releases, the awards won by each movie, and the actors that star within the movie. Another handy feature is an attached sentence or two at the end of each review that leads you to other movies that share the same theme or plot. There are many, many movies listed in this book, as well as an alphabetical list at the end so you can easily find a movie you may want to read about. The movies are plentiful in variety as well: the reader will find monster movies, superhero movies, romance and sci-fi, and even some oldies but goodies. From The Wizard of Oz to Titanic, this book covers most of what you might be looking to view.
The highlight of 100+ Years of Movies and what makes it unique is the fact that you can pick one movie and move from review to review from there, based on recommendations. A reader can jump around the book this way and find movies they may like but have not seen yet, and make a list of movies to view based on summary. I would have liked a little more summary in some cases, particularly if it was a movie I was on the fence about watching, but overall, the summaries are done well and are helpful. Ratings are usually quite high, and I know I will watch some movies I have not yet seen based on recommendations and star ratings. Author Byron Brubaker has put out a winner here, and his passion for cinema is evident. I recommend this book to movie buffs and those who enjoy reading movie reviews.
