If you can't tell from the title, Zombies Eat Big Girls Too by B.K. Walker is a tongue-in-cheek, funny take on the zombie apocalypse. Like every good zombie story, the book starts off on the day that the apocalypse hits the world. Stuff hits the fan when Millicent and her parents are attacked by two zombies. She is able to shoot them in the heads, but not before her mom's arm is used as a chew toy by one of the biters. You know what happens next; sickness, misery, and Millicent's dad refuses to do what is needed to keep the two alive. So of course, mom eats dad, and now Millie is alone. But the zombies don't like her. She's a big girl, and something about her repels the zombies.
But there is one zombie that won't leave her alone. He's a zombie kid that keeps following her, not to eat, but just to smell. Millie can't figure out if he wants to eat her or hang out with her, but he seems at least a little sentient so she's curious about him. It turns out, Eric is sick, but not yet a zombie. Eric and Millie are the only two they know who aren't mindless. They try to work together for a cure.
There were cool bits that I haven't seen in zombie books before. A girl completely unfazed by the zombie apocalypse being one of those things. Millicent is very calm and collected about it all, even her parents' deaths and the zombification of her mom. Then she's cool with the walking dead all over town and just walks around because she's immune. She's a very fearless character and it was interesting to see the different take on things. It was funny, rather than terrifying.
