UnWanted Selection: Kimjen's Choice: Book 1 (Volume 1) by K.L. Frase is a quick and easy to read young adult fantasy story. Kimjen is the daughter of one of the most powerful men in the Consolidated Organization of Worlds. Her whole life has been scripted out for her, all of her decisions premade before she's even had a chance to have her say. Until Kimjen decides to reject her fancy life and join forces with a young man named Jayjo on an adventurous and dangerous quest. Their first task is to journey together to Floer, a strange and mysterious planet. There they need to capture a dangerous Spikealong creature, which can be dangerous with its hidden defenses. Because of the cunning of the Spikealong creature, Kimjen and Jayjo must work together swiftly in order to accomplish this task. They face much opposition and are unsure of whether or not they will succeed. What they learn along the way is almost as important as the task itself.
This is a very fun read that is appropriate for tween and teen readers. It is cute, clever, well written, and interesting. Middle grade readers will love the characters, the adventure, and the new worlds and creatures they are exposed to, especially the Spikealongs. This is a clean, age appropriate story that parents can feel happy about giving to younger readers as well. Overall, a very nice job!
