Univaya by Skylar Honea is a complex web of inter-dimensional...or universal(?) worlds that makes you question reality. Elizabeth, denizen of the planet called Hollows, is the central figure and hero of our journey. Her destiny has been planned out for generations and now that it's here, she is the one to step up to fulfill her duty and kill the one she used to love.

Overall, this was a really cool story. Elizabeth as a character was a bit of a conundrum. At first, her personality really grated on me and I had trouble relating to her thoughts. Then all of a sudden, it was like a light bulb went off in her head and she started thinking for herself, wondering why she was supposed to act one way when she felt another, and the character really grew on me as she herself was growing up. A very cool experience!

Univaya is a unique addition to the realms of fantasy and science fiction! It's hard to place it in just one category, because while the setting is pure science fiction, multi-universal realities and a complicated plot somehow tie all the universes into each other. Yet the book itself reads as sort of a mystery with elements of drama and fantasy woven in. All in all, I really enjoyed the blended genre feel quite a bit. I felt that I was reading something truly original which made the story pop that much more. Skylar Honea is new to me, but my ears are definitely going to perk up again if I hear of other books from her in the future.
