In "The Naked Warrior" by Nelson O. Ottenhausen, Major General Lance Stalwardt is head of a military unit devoted to covert operations which are conducted in other countries and meant to ensure the national security of the United States. Very few people know of the existence of this unit – only three persons as a matter of fact. This includes the President, the National Security Adviser and a person who goes by the name of Hawkins. However, when two of these men turn up dead from being assassinated, Stalwardt is left with no other rational choice to find the culprits: he must break the oath he swore to take and use the secret unit to solve the case and survive the ordeal. To make matters worse, there is a possibility that he may have to use his unit against the government itself.

If conspiracies and political mysteries thrill you, then you can add this book to your collection of Tom Clancy or Stephen Coonts novels. It starts off with assassinations that leaves you asking why, after which you will find yourself racing through the action to find answers to this gripping plot. And then we are introduced to the protagonist Lance Stalwardt. The details of his journey, from being a lieutenant in Vietnam to his present job, proves useful in the narrative, giving us a deeper understanding of the character who must later come face to face with men who wield a different kind of power. Overall a must-read for thriller fans who are looking for a gripping and fast-moving story.
