Any Time God by Genette Brooks is a collection of inspirational poems that captures the author's spirituality and proposes a path to a deeper connection with God. The poems are spiritually rich and filled with religious themes and imagery. Some of the poems are reminiscent of the Psalms. We encounter in this collection a unique voice that communicates the reality of union with God from different moments. Sometimes it's the repentant sinner confessing guilt; at times it is the faithful follower reposing in the shadow of God's love; and at times it is the questing soul, uncertain, weak and longing for nourishment.
I enjoyed many poems in this collection and at times they became the medium through which a conversation with God sparked off. For instance, in one of my favorite poems, "Restore Me Lord", I found words to speak to God.
"Forgive me Lord.
For I have done wrong.
Lift me up to where I belong.
Restore my hope, because I am down.
I have to let go of some past hurts.
Lift me up Lord.
I am down.
Fix my broken heart.
Fix my mind, oh Lord.
Heal me oh God.
Do it now.
I need to be restored."
The poems feature themes of faith, weakness, strength in God, restoration, and a lot more. They flow freely and are filled with words that inspire and empower. These poems invite readers to step into a spiritual atmosphere, dare to hold God by the hand and allow him to lead them through the darkness of this life. Very inspiring!
